Ms. Hall's Literature and Composition Classes

                 Course Description 

Secondary English Literature and Composition is a place where learners like you study and analyze works of worthy literature from varying genres in order to provide valuable ideas supported by evidence through discussion, writing, and artistic representations.

 GOALS

Learners, hereafter referred to as “you,” will be taught how to analyze works of notation; how to provide self and peer and authorial evaluations of chosen works; how to be self-aware, conscientious communicators through speeches, discussions, and writings; how to speak and write with a high level of syntactical sequencing and vocabulary; and finally how to recognize well written and spoken words and works based in fact and logic as well as fictional creations. 

 

GRADING POLICY

Grading Scale: 100-90 (A), 89-80 (B), 79-70 (C), 69-60 (D), 59-0 (F)

**Your grades are set up as follows:  60% essays and tests, 40% guided practice and organization and discussion.  You will not pass unless you participate and complete assignments, which are given in order to help prepare you for your assessments.

Homework:  5%           Classroom: 20%       Discussion:  10%

Notebook Checks:  5%         Essays:    30%      Tests:  30%

**Make up work will be accepted for up to two days after your return if you have an excused absence, and it will be available in the daily makeup bin located in the classroom. Lesson plans for the upcoming week are always posted in the classroom the Friday before if you are aware the absence will occur beforehand.  Please follow the handbook guidelines on due dates for makeup work. If you are absent on the day make up work is due, that work is then due immediately upon your return. If your absence is unexcused or due to disciplinary action, please follow the handbook for directions.

**Late work will be accepted for 10% off for up to five days after the assignment is due.  After this time, your parent/guardian will be notified that you chose to take a zero for the assignment.
